![]() ![]() (The 20 round drum while cool and fun for the range would be terrible for home defense purposes.) The detachable box magazine is also a big plus in my book, though it only holds 5 rounds. The folding stock is very handy, makes it easy to wield indoors, in hallways, etc. Ordered it a couple of days after their show started airing (before they went all Hollywood) and it's been nothing but perfect the whole time: Here's one of mine - a Red Jacket RTS-12CG conversion. (Or trying to anyhow.) I've been handling and using AKs of all sorts for years and years, so once I got my hands on a Saiga-12 conversion everything seemed very natural and comfortable. Just never had the need/desire to use them more than the occasional day shooting trap. I've personally never been very comfortable with a pump-action shotgun. ![]() I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the Saiga 12 (or something simillar). In any event, we started thinking of 37s in pretty much the same terms we viewed Winchesters when they made their own production changes back in '64. Some brands of ammo seemed to work relatively well - though still with the occasional round falling out or a double-feed, and others didn't work at all. They were also very sensitive to case rim width. ![]() I honestly don't know whether the problems were dimensional glitches or just plain old metal fatigue, but we (our gun shop) started seeing 37s that'd fire the first round, allow the user to eject the empty, and as the next round was being chambered one of two things would happen the lifter arms would drop the round being chambered, or the shell stop would spit out an extra round. The shell stop was changed from a machined part to a thick stamping, its screw replaced by a pin, and the shell carrier (the lifter thingie) changed from the time-tested machined component to a heavy duty stamping. ![]() Just a thought regarding the 37 I remember when Ithaca started taking some shortcuts with the design, and the results weren't all for the best. ![]()
